Challenges are opportunities in disguise
"Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising UP every time we fall"
I thought of this saying by Chinese philosopher Confucius, as I sat wondering about what I would do next in my life. I had been made redundant the day before. As much as I loved my job, did it really define my life?
People who are made redundant have to deal with self-doubt, shame and guilt. But this wasn't the first adversity that I had faced and it certainly won't be my last.
In the demanding and constant changing world, we live in, it is so easy sometimes to become overwhelmed and feel as if we are sinking.
Resilience enables us to utilise skills and strengths to cope and recover from the knockbacks and challenges that life throws at us.
The key, however, is the end result. It isn’t necessarily a question of how far you fall but how high you can bounce back. Sometimes maybe, even bigger, better and stronger as a result of an experience.
And that's how a new chapter in my life started. I became a motivational speaker and founded 'Above and beyond resilience'. I conduct talks and workshops to focus on building resilience and to stay motivated and determined. A journey of a thousand miles has just begun!
What about you?
Have you ever had to bounce back from a difficult situation?
Do you believe resilience helps in getting you back on track?
